For anyone who loves their pet rats, or is thinking of getting their first rat, rat care is the most important thing you need to know about.  Rats are wonderfully complex and intelligent creatures, and following a few specific guidelines will help them enjoy a long and healthy life.

Rats need friends keeping a rat on its own is cruel.  Rats are social creatures and they thrive on the physical contact and stimulation of other rats.

Wire cages are the only type of cage you should keep rats in.  With a few additions they provide a stimulating and healthy environment for your rats.

Diet is extremely important.  If you want your rats to stay happy and healthy then make sure you feed them a well balanced diet.

Play with your rats make sure you get your rats out of their cage everyday and play with them.  Not only will it keep them healthy, but it will strengthen their bond with you.

Provide lots of toys hanging tunnels, hammocks and other things in your rats cage makes an interesting environment for your rats and keeps them fit and healthy.

Consider rat rescue many rats of all ages are left with animal shelters and they are as loving as any rat you can get from a pet shop or breeder and you will have done a wonderful thing.I have been a rat lover for 15 years and it is hard to imagine a home without rats.
